SA20 Semi-Finals Promise Thrills
The stage is set for another ILT20 in the 2025 Betway SA20 finals story, with two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) facing MI Cape Town in Johannesburg on Saturday. Both teams have been in sparkling form and will bring an unquenchable thirst for success to the high-stakes match at The Wanderers.
SEC swept past Paarl Royals in the second qualifier to reach their third SA20 final in three seasons, while MICT dominated the league stage under Rashid Khan’s leadership. SEC captain Aiden Markram will be keen to deliver a third triumph, which would align them with South Africa’s rugby team, the Springboks, as national symbols of achievement. He’s been an understated leader off the pitch and an alpha competitor on it this season, displaying a steely resolve with the ball as well. His catches to dismiss Mahmudullah and Harry Brook during the qualifier were crucial moments of brilliance.
South Africa’s Premier T20 Showdown
Ajay Jeggels and Daniel Pienaar combined to lay the foundation for Graeme College’s win over Union in their quarter-final encounter at SuperSport Park, Centurion. The pair shared a superb 127-run second-wicket stand, which was the highest in a Graeme College innings this season. Union could only muster 59 in reply and Graeme won by 92 runs.
The SA20 League Commissioner, Graeme Smith, said the current semi-final structure wouldn’t be changed, so that the integrity of the competition remains intact. He added that he was satisfied with the quality of the games and is looking forward to another exciting season of the tournament.
